Dear members of the PA colour reliable softproof,
today we first like to ask you for feedback about the planned tests to
estimate aging of the softproof related components A) monitor, B)
measurement device and C) norm light. Second we are happy to hear from
you if you like to join doing the tests are your site.
Knowledge about aging is important to be able to have a good clue
about the lifetime and needed maintanance for the given components and
last not least is relevant when thinking about the time span how often
a softproofing system has to be validated and reported.
A) Monitor
==========
We will measure one new monitor which will be used in normal office
conditions about 9 to 10 hours / day. We will record the runtime and
measure the monitor at least once a month but normally every second
week. We plan to measure the monitor before recalibration and after
recalibration and run the profile validation test. In addition maximum
calibrated luminance will be tested.
If a monitor manufacturer wants to join in with an additional monitor
please contact us.
We also welcome when you will chime in doing the tests at your site. I
know that some of you already run similar tests already, which is a
good practice :-)
B) Measurement device
=====================
Here we will measure our
stable LED normal once a month with our different measuring devices.
This will give us some data about instruments which are used "from
time to time".
Lacking a stable reference you can send us your devices if you like.
Maybe one idea is sending us the devices now and then bring them with
you at the next PA meeting November 31th. Further measurements can
then be done next year at the next PA meeting (maybe in March or
April) for example.
If you have further ideas please contact us.
C) Norm light
=============
We will measure our viewing cabinet which is used for most experiments
once a month and record the runtime. We ask especially the printers to
do make periodic measurements and provide us the data. You can us our
ISO 3664 conformance Excel sheet for this:

In the next issue of Fogra Aktuell (Fogra News) there will be an
article outlining how to use this evaluation tool.
If you have feedback about this plan please contact us via the
mailing-list or personal contact. :-)
Greetings out of a sunny munich
