[FSP] Mask experiments and software for uniformity assesment

Dear members of the PA colour reliable softproof,

Mask experiment
================

attached you find the evaluation of the mask experiment we conducted
during the last PA meeting. We welcome your feedback. Are there any
constraints in publishing this evaluation report on the website?

We are now in the process to continue with the mask experiments. The
mask experiments will help to answer the following questions:

1) Is there a significant influence of observer metamerism in
softproof scenarios?

2) Does the majority of the observers match the 2° observer
colorimetrical assesment by measurement of a laboratory
spectroradiometer?

3) Is it possible to correct handheld measuring devices to show
smaller variations with the help of the mask method?

With Roman Byshko together we began to continue the mask experiment
for 6 colours (white, gray, skin, yellow, blue and dark green). We
want to conduct the experiments on displays with different spectral
characteristics. So far we started with two wide-gamut displays with
CCFL and white (improved) LED backlight (CG245 and CG246). If you have
experience or input which monitors would be especially interesting or
possible challenging in regards to observer metamerism please give us
a pointer.


Uniformity assesment
====================

The 5x5 field method developed in the former softproof research
project is now proven and tested and is used in the FograCert
Softproofing System and also included in the latest draft for ISO
12646.

Are you aware of a software which already helps to make the needed 75
measurements (5x5 matrix for 3 colours) and evaluating the uniformity?

If not do you know a software which allows to trigger manual display
measurements and saving the results to a (CGATS or similiar) file?
