[FSP] FograCert Softproofing System PreCert Monitor -> own Monitor certification?

Dear members of the softproof research project and monitor vendors,

during the first softproof research project (2007 to 2009) the
research committee (Projektbegleitender Ausschuss = PA) discussed the
need for a certification of softproofing systems. As a part of the
system certification criteria where evolved to test a monitor used in
the softproof system. [1]

The PA decided that the monitor should not be certified on its own,
because other factors (measurement device, monitor driving and ambient
lighting) also have a relevant impact on the colour accuracy of the
system. See the minutes of meeting 2008-12-11 and 2009-03-02 and
2009-09-28 (normlight project) and 2010-03-08 (normlight project).

Today we plan to create an own certification "FograCert Softproof
Monitor" because of the following reasons:

1) The concerns stated that a "certified" monitor would be misleading
for the end users to neglect the influence of the other components of
a softproofing system did not hold true.

2) An updated version of ISO 12646 is on the way. The current status is
Committee Draft CD, see ISO News 13 for explanations of the ISO stages:

http://www.fogra.org/en/fogra-standardization/iso-news-en/a-iso-news-en.html

The monitor PreCert already reflects the draft to 100 %. So an own
certification would now make sense and can be referred to the draft
ISO/CD 12646 and later to the final publication of ISO 12646.

3) Monitor manufacturers are now asking for an own certification logo
for easier communication of the successful monitor test and better
marketing.

Are there any objections for an own "FograCert Softproof Monitor"
taking those three points into consideration? Please note that the
certification would explicitly name the use case "softproof" so that
otherwise possible misinterpretations should be avoided.

Please give us feedback directly or via the mailing whatever you
prefer.

Best regards
Peter Karp

[1] The normative criteria cover the viewing angle characteristics.
Uniformity and warm-up behavior is tested informative (uniformity is a
normative test for a monitor used in a softproofing system although).
